FREE COACHING
There is always a positive outcome in any negative situation. A big positive for me is the amount of people I now see out cycling. I hope that new riders or people that have found their bike legs again, can continue to enjoy their new freedom and stay on two wheels. So if there are any new riders who would like a few pointers to help them enjoy and progress their riding I will be running some free coaching sessions on Saturdays in Aviemore and surrounding area.
I hope to run sessions at Aviemore, Grantown, Kingussie and Laggan they will run for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. It will depend on who turns up as to what level the sessions will be pitched at. I will cover bike set up, braking, cornering and positioning on a bike. I have run coaching session on the same session goals to experienced riders and it is surprising how much they learned from a simple session like this. If you have a partner, spouse or kids that are just getting into cycling and already ride then come along too!
The sessions will be on Saturday mornings and will hopefully start in July but we will have to wait and see how things go.

Night Riding MTB and Cyclocross
I am will be running some night riding courses and guided trips from mid November. Riding around a forest at night might seem a bit nuts!! Once you have a proper set of lights, have an understanding about riding at night and how the terrain appears much different your confidence will grow massively. It is a brilliant way to keep fit through the winter and great fun.
I will start off the sessions at Callendar Bike Trails near Falkirk for MTB and Cross bikes. The reason for this is that the trails there are well maintained and there will not be any surprises when we are out, this will give you a chance to get the basics right and grow in confidence. The next courses will be more MTB orientated at Beecraigs or other venues.
I will also be running some Cyclocross training rides. These are all off road from Linlithgow Leisure Centre with the main ride being 25 miles with about 12 miles of Canal towpath which I aim to do a minimum of 14 mph. That said no one gets left behind!! and mountain bikes are welcome especially if you have a 29er. If you would like to come along and not ridden at night then I would strongly suggest you come along to one of the basic courses first.
I will be running courses for women, youths and adults £20 per rider. If you do not have lights then I can let you have one for £5 for the session.
I do not plan to coach on the Cyclocross training rides so £10 plus £5 for the lights if you need them.
All session will be weather dependant! if its raining we are good to go but if it is snowing then my insurance will not allow me to run the sessions.
If you cannot make any of the sessions below then please contact me and I will run additional sessions.
The session can be what ever you want it to be depending on your skill and confidence level and can include bike maintenance. The cost is £30 for 1 1/2 hours the cost will less per rider for groups.

Trail Skills for all abilities £20 per person per session minimum of 2 per session
Want to improve you mountain biking or are you new to the sport, then this might be for you. This will give you the skills to get you round most of the trail centres in the area. You will learn the correct techniques and how to apply them to the trails. You will gain confidence in your own abilities and hopefully push just outside you initial comfort zone as your skill and understanding progresses. I have recently reviewed my courses and adding a few more so that riders can more easily progress through
Essentials, Fundamentals and then to do the Natural Trails and hopefully the Introduction to Enduro day. At the end of each block I hope to have a day away to Glentress after the Essentials and Innerleithen after the Fundamentals. These days will allow you to put into practice all that you have learned. I plan to do a 2 hour trail ride over 4 -6 hours using the features on the trails to go over some of the elements covered in the previous courses and progress them further.
Essentials are courses designed to get the basics sorted out. A lot of riders are unaware that simple changes to their bike set up can have a huge impact on their abilities and enjoyment.
The following 4 sessions can each be done on their own but are designed to get the rider confident on their bikes so that they can progress onto do the Fundamentals course. The initial Essentials course will give you a basic understanding of mountain biking before progressing onto other skills.
Essentials covering all the basics
Essentials 1 - Weight shift, basic descending and climbing.
Essentials 2 - Introduction to Flow, Pumping and Berms.
Essentials 3 Try some more natural trails with hopefully mud.
Fundamental is for riders who ride their bikes but could do with some refining. How to tackle more challenging corners, negotiating obstacles, understanding flow and a few roots. I haven't posted any dates for these yet as all enquiries to date have been about the Essentials courses but if anyone want me to run any of the courses just let me know when your free.
Fundamentals 1 - Cornering, Technical climbs and some natural descents.
Fundamentals 2 - A confidence builder with more of an emphasis on FLOW.
Fundamentals 3 - An Introduction to natural steep trails
